About the club
Ramside Hall sits at Carrville on the eastern edge of Durham City, just off the A1(M) and a short drive from Durham station on the East Coast Main Line. It is a full resort – a four-star hotel, a spa and four restaurants alongside the golf – which makes it one of the easier venues for families travelling from a distance.
There are 36 holes, both designed by Jonathan Gaunt. The Prince Bishops’ opened in 1996 and is named after the warrior clergymen who ruled the region after the Norman Conquest; it is a par 72 stretching to 6,851 yards from the championship tees. The Cathedral followed in September 2014, a par 71 of 6,640 yards routed along a hilltop with tight fairways, blind shots and far-reaching views. Gaunt named its 11th to 14th holes Ramside’s Amen Corner, after Augusta.
Durham Cathedral is visible from both courses and is the image the resort is known by. There is a 43-bay Toptracer range and a purpose-built short-game area, and the junior academy runs age-banded group coaching midweek and at weekends with a five-strong PGA team, plus holiday camps.
