About the club
Melton Mowbray Golf Club is at Thorpe Arnold on the Waltham Road, about two and a half miles north-east of Melton Mowbray on the A607 towards Grantham. It sits high on the Leicestershire Wolds, with wide countryside views in most directions, and the town’s railway station is a few minutes away on the Birmingham to Peterborough line.
The club was founded in 1925 and played over nine holes for most of its life, extending to a full eighteen in 1991. It is a par 70 of 6,279 yards from the white tees, rolling parkland that walks comfortably despite the undulation, with tight tree-lined fairways, very few water hazards and small, true greens. The premium is firmly on straight hitting rather than length, and the closing par four – a linksy, rolling fairway to a slightly raised green – is a good hole to finish on.
There is a seven-bay floodlit driving range along with putting, chipping and pitching greens and a practice bunker. The club has a long-standing open programme and has hosted county-level junior events, including a round of the Shires Junior Golf Tour.
