About the club
Louth Golf Club sits on Crowtree Lane just outside the Georgian market town of Louth, less than a mile from the A16 bypass and flanked by Hubbard’s Hills in the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The clubhouse, Crowtree Lodge, is the converted Victorian house that came with the land, and there is accommodation and a restaurant on site.
The club has a good story behind it. Four men – Ted Drakes, Tony Sharpley, Dick Chatterton and Fred Davy – bought a 42-acre property at auction in 1964 and opened nine holes on 5 June 1965, buying a further 34 acres soon afterwards to take it to eighteen. It plays to a par 72 of 6,360 yards, gently rolling parkland defined by ancient woodland, with views out over the Wolds.
Louth is one of the strongest junior clubs the tour visits. It holds England Golf and Golf Foundation Junior Hub status, runs a three-stage coaching pathway from March to December, and membership is free for under-tens. There is a junior room, a driving range and free taster sessions for anyone aged five to sixteen.
