About the club
Leeds Golf Centre sits at Wike Ridge in Shadwell, on the north-eastern edge of Leeds roughly midway between the city and Harrogate. It is open seven days a week and closed only on Christmas Day, and it is about as well equipped as a golf venue gets in the north of England.
The Wike Ridge course was designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1993, then substantially redeveloped in 2012 by Jonathan Gaunt, who built two new greens, new tee complexes on twelve of the eighteen holes and new water features, and transplanted 1,400 trees. It is a par 72 of 6,535 yards through woodland and parkland. The 2nd, a par five of 629 yards, is one of the longest holes in the north; the 16th is a dramatic 232-yard par three; and a lake and fountain guard the 18th green.
Alongside it are the Oaks, a twelve-hole par-three course with USGA greens, and a floodlit nineteen-bay Toptracer range. The centre is an England Golf Starter Centre and was named England Golf Club of the Year in 2018; its junior programme takes children from age five and includes a dedicated girls squad.
