Faversham Golf Club

Faversham, Kent · Hosts one PJGT event in 2027

About the club

Faversham Golf Club plays over the Belmont Park estate below the North Downs, about eight minutes from junction 6 of the M2 and a short drive from Faversham station. The club was founded in 1902 on Nagden Marshes and moved to Belmont, then Lord Harris’s land, in 1910.

Few clubs of this size have such a list of names attached to them. James Braid laid out the original nine at Belmont, J. H. Taylor refined it, and in 1925 the club engaged Alister MacKenzie, whose plan was rediscovered at the club and authenticated years later. The course was rebuilt and rerouted around 1929, and most of what is played today follows MacKenzie’s proposals. It is a par 70 of roughly 6,000 yards, gently undulating, heavily tree-lined and full of plateau greens.

Because it is built on chalk, Faversham drains as well as almost any parkland course in Kent and plays properly all year round. The junior section takes children from age five, runs weekend junior meets on reserved tees from March to October, and lends clubs to juniors who keep them until they have outgrown them.
